Have You Been Shaving the Wrong Way?

You know that feeling after a hot shower and a clean, smooth shave that makes you feel like you can take on the world? That post-shave feeling that gives you confidence in spades, ready for your hot date or job interview? There’s just something about the cool air touching your face right after you shave that levels you up, isn’t there?

No? Well, you must not be shaving right

Don’t worry! If you’re shaving the wrong way, you came to the right place. We’ve got all the tips and tricks that will help you get the perfect shave and can give you that nothing-can-stop-me feeling you’ve been missing out on. This is how you should shave (so your face says, "I love you").

TIP #1

Soften Your Hair Before You Shave.

If you want to avoid the burn that comes from a rough shave, the first thing you should remember is to soften your hair to make it easier to cut with your razor. This can be as simple as taking a shower before your shave. The steam and hot water will reduce the pulling and tugging on your facial hair which is what drives post-shave irritation.

Sometimes you don’t have time to take a shower though, and that’s ok. If you don’t, make sure you spend a few minutes washing your face thoroughly before you begin shaving. Use soap and hot water to make sure it softens each little hair you’re about to slice away.

TIP #2

Keep Your Shaving Cream On for 2 Minutes Before You Begin Shaving.

Speaking of softening the hair on your face, using a good shave cream or shave gel will also help reduce razor burn and irritation that stems from shaving. Just remember, you don’t get the full benefits of the shave cream if you don’t let it soak into your face.

We recommend when using the Harry’s foaming shave gel, to leave it on your face for two full minutes, letting the aloe-enriched formula and rich lather protect your skin and guide you to an incredible shave. Think about it - if you put it on and shave it off seconds later, what is it even doing?

BONUS TIP

When you rub your shaving cream into your face, rub it against the grain of your hair to help each hair separate from each other and stand up a bit more, ready for the shave. You can also use a shave brush to help prepare your face for a great shave.

TIP #3

Use a Razor with Sharp Blades.

Fun Fact: Did you know that more kitchen injuries are reported due to using a dull knife instead of a sharp knife? That’s because using a dull blade makes it more difficult to cut through food, and makes it more likely you slip and cut yourself.

Well, the same goes for shaving your face. Make sure you are using a razor that is made with sharp blades to make sure you can smoothly and easily glide through your facial hair on your way to a clean shaven look.

Another Fun Fact: Do you know why companies like Harry’s use razor cartridges with 5 blades? It’s because having more blades balances the distribution of weight of the razor across a larger surface area, causing less friction on one specific point and protecting you from nicks and cuts.

TIP #4

Don't Use Old Razors.

This may seem pretty obvious, but its something that makes all the difference in the world when shaving. Don’t overuse razors to the point where they’re no longer sharp or clean. Make sure you’re not trying to push each razor head to the limit and rotate your blades regularly.

I know this can become expensive, but at Harry’s we make sure we put your wallet first (well, second, after your face. We put your face first). That’s why an 8-pack of razor refills costs just $17 and what with Harry’s, your 8th shave will be as smooth as your first. That means you can get 64 shaves for $17 without having to worry about overusing blades. Don’t worry, we got you.

TIP #5

Post-Shave Care Will Make Your Face Thrive.

When you shave that last bit of hair off your chinny chin chin, that doesn’t mean the job is done. In fact, this is where most people miss out on getting a great shave.

After shaving, you should rinse your face off with warm water. Get rid of any remnant shaving cream or hairs that have been trimmed so your face is nice and clean. Next use an after shave lotion or post shave balm to soothe and enrich your skin. After all, you just took a really sharp blade to your face - it deserves a little rejuvenation.
